Dental veneers are thin shells attached to the front surface of your teeth to hide imperfections. Most of them are made from porcelain and are bonded permanently to your teeth.
Information About Veneers
They are often used when you have a chipped, broken or discolored tooth. In cases where a tooth is slightly smaller than normal ones, veneers are used to correct the problem.
Veneers only cover the front surface of the tooth. They are different from implants as they replace the entire tooth structure. Crowns, on the other hand, encase the entire tooth, which is entirely different from veneers.
The Benefits of Veneers
The biggest advantage of veneers is the improvement of your teeth’s appearance. Veneers can be used for the following situations:
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Tooth discoloration that whitening cannot fix
- Gaps in teeth
- Smaller or irregularly shaped teeth
One of the great things about veneers is how they change your appearance but it still look realistic and natural.
Preparing for Your Dental Appointment
Before getting veneers, you need to set up an appointment to consider your choices and how many veneers you want to be placed on your teeth.
If you have misaligned teeth, we may need to align them first with braces or Invisalign.
We will assess your dental health, do x-rays and check your mouth for signs of decay and gum problems. The presence of these conditions may not make you a good candidate for veneers until they are resolved.
How Are Veneers Placed on Teeth?
We will assess the fit, shape, and shade of your veneers to make sure they look natural. Before attachment, a teeth cleaning is performed to keep bacteria from being trapped under the veneers, which can cause decay.
A grinding tool is then used to create a rough texture that allows easy attachment of the veneers. Dental cement is used to make veneers stick to the teeth, which are then hardened by ultraviolet light.
